Introduction/Problem:

Students will visit http://www.dl.ket.org/humanities/resources/art/critproc.htm (A 4-Step Critiquing Process for Works of Art) they will then be given a sample critique of George Seurat: An Afternoon at La Grande Jette, class text book (with page locations of the Elements and Principles of Art) and a blank critique form featuring Pierre Auguste Renoir: Luncheon of the Boating Party. Students will review the above web site and use the class text book as a reference to pull information from to weave into their writings.

Procedures:

Teacher will lead a class discussion on how to critique a work of art and review the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Teacher and students will examine the sample critique of George Seurat: An Afternoon at La Grande Jette prompting students to ask questions on the critique process using proper art terminology. Students will review the above web site and use the class text book as a reference to pull information from to weave into their critique of Pierre Auguste Renoir: Luncheon of the Boating Party.

Student Product/Work:

Students will go over the sample critique, review the steps when critiquing art then students will write about the sample given.


Assessment/Rubric: Students will present their critiques in order to understand the various interpretations from fellow students.
